Document Summary
S: the form of the good is the most important thing to learn about. The virtues become useful and beneficial by their relation to good. Socrates: we have no adequate knowledge of good. And if we do not know it, then even the fullest possible knowledge of other things is of no benefit to us. What role is the good playing here: by knowing the good, it helps illuminate all else. Understanding what really is good is essential. People are generally content to pursue what is believed to be just or beautiful. We can perceive most things directly with our senses, but sight is different, it requires a third thing to be present. The sun is the analogy of the good. What the sun is in the visible realm in relation to sight and visible things. Just as the sun illuminates things and allows us to see them clearly in a way we cant in the light of night.
