Radical republicans- advocates not only equal rights for the freedmen but also a tougher stance toward the white south. Saw reconstruction as a chance to effect a fundamental transformation of southern society. Delay the process until war"s end and limit participation to southern unionists. Lincoln viewed reconstruction to win the war and abolish slavery.
