MGT 500 Lecture 88: Group versus the individual

4 views2 pages

Document Summary

Groups create a more complete information and knowledge. By exaggerating resources of several people, groups bring more input and heterogeneity into their process of making decisions. This opens up the opportunity to consider different alternatives and more approaches. Groups lead to more acceptance of a certain solution. Group members who participate in decision making are more likely to enthusiastically support it and encourage others to later accept it. Group decisions are more time-consuming because groups take more time to get to a solution. The desire by members of groups to be accepted and seen as a group asset can eliminate overt disagreement. Group discussion can be dominated by one or a couple members. If they are low and medium ability group members, the overall effectiveness of the group will suffer. In an individual decision, it"s more clear who is accountable for the final outcome. In a group decision, the responsibility is diluted of a single group member.
