Economical crisis, wars, revolutions, combined have had the same impact as infectious diseases have had. Earlier in the 1800s scientists disliked microbes and fought them by having good hygeine, cleanliness etc. now we fight with vaccines and antibiotics. Now we know that the microscopic world is involved with macroscopic life. We need them in order to survive, and they need us as a host. They are involved in both health and disease. Our body is covered in trillions of them. Using antibiotics for a long period of time can create a secondary infection. They can kill microbes that protect us from more aggressive microbes. When the population of m is thrown off balance, the host can have serious health problems. They can affect us in a dramatic way. Our envrionment is totally dependant on microbial life. They are responsible for much of the oxygen and organic molecules on this planet. Cellulor life need to make molecules with carbon.
