A chain of events in cause-effect relationship occurring in time and space. Causal chains: a series of causes that lead to effects which in turn become the cause of further events and so on. Many events are explicitly represented on screen or on the soundtrack. Many events are meant to be inferred by the spectator even though they are not explicitly presented. A film will also whoe us material that is extraneous to the story (eg. credits) B/t analyse stories by distinguishing between plot and story. Story: the set of all events in a narrative, both the ones explicitly presented and those the viewer infers . The diegesis is the total world of story action, the recounted story: that you might tell someone who has not seen the film. Plot: everything visible and audible present in the film before us.
