Recap, 2 retinas, 1 pineal, 2 scn (one in each lobe, the retina has cells that are directly photosensitive that contains melanopsin that make up 1 % of the whole cell population. They are considered as clock cells as they contain mo and clock genes. The cells are connected through gap junctions (once separated each will tick on its on according to its period). Made up of two areas: the core has the bulk of the cells and receives the light input. In mammals its not directly sensitive (unlike fish and birds). Other clocks such as the adrenal gland would not be capable of being entrained to light as they a(cid:396)en"t sensitive to light: the scn is the main entrainer of the peripheral tissues as it delivers the light input. Rhodinus: the mammals adrenal gland has both hormonal and nervous connection with the brain, hormonal output is released rhythmically.
