Major contributor to the world of the unconscious mind. Human psyche: 3 parts: id: the pleasure principle, superego: the conscience, the ego: the reality principle. Life insinct: eros or libido our self preservaion and sex drive. Death insinct: thanatos our insinct towards self destrucive behavior. These 2 forces are in constant conlict within the individual. Deviant behavior: according to freud, can be blamed on the id, the superego, the ego, or some combinaion thereof. Based on prof. michael arnfield"s aricle of the same name. Allow people a level of emancipaion from the stresses of of-line life . Tend to relect the baseline personality of the individual but in a more exaggerated and/or intensiied way compared to everyday interacion. When the self is presented in these socially constructed, online ways, the environment foster mimetic behavior. This allows deviants to camoulage themselves more easily as our tolerance for deviant behavior reaches much higher levels online than in face to face interacion.
