When the self is presented in these socially constructed, online ways, the environment foster mimetic behavior. This allows deviants to camouflage themselves more easily; as our tolerance for deviant behavior reaches much higher levels online than in face to face interaction. The reality is that the self-commodification, superficiality, & the exploitative nature of social media blurs the line between the normal & the deviant.
