31/03/2015: advertising isn"t just about products, it informs/persuades us and influences our behavior; it also motivates us to do something different, social advertising isn"t about products. In ancients greece and rome, there were campaigns to free slaves. Similarly, in england there were campaigns to abolish debtor prisons, to grant voting rights to women, ad to do away with child labor. In 19th century america, abolition, temperance, prohibition & suffragette & to regulate quality of foods and products: examples of recent social advertising: 1) health promotion- comes from the government. The canadian government is the top advertiser for health promotion. Campaigns have been launched like those for mental health and no smoking sign. But the government isn"t the only one who took about these issues. Deliver health promotion messages to specific populations that are message through. There"s a fine line between insulting someone, and getting your message through especially when using humor.
