Concept: inflammation, infection and healing part 2. Identify interventions that optimize or promote healing from infection: assessment, promotion. Who can name an abx: amoxicyllin, vancomycin, biayin, clindamycin, olol, statin. Side effects: killing all the good bacteria leads to diarrhea or a yeast infection, eat, microbs and our bodies sauerkraut, healthy fermented food yogurt. Causes 9,000 infections in hospitals/facilities each year. Nearly half of hospital patients who get cre bloodstream infections die from them. Clostridium difficule (c. diff) is not highly resistant to abx but does thrive. Drug-resistant gonorrhea (sti) now resists several abx that used to cure it. Cdc estimates 30% of the 800,000 us cases each year fit that description. The bacteria cause 250,000 infections and 14,000 deaths each year when abx are over-used. Decreased activity/mobility: reposition every 2 hours, frequent shifts every fifteen to 30 min. Nutrition: good nutrition good skin bad nutrition more likely to have skin breakdown.
