Can facilitate or hinder learning: ex. Training program at the individual level, go back to work and into their workroom. The process of acquiring job-related knowledge and skills in the workplace. This can occur in at least two ways: formal learning. Learning that is structured and planned by the organization. Learning that occurs naturally as part of work and is not planned/designed by the organization. Not structured, not planned, can happen anytime. Informal interactions: coffee breaks, shift changes, meetings, social media. Intellectual skills: procedural knowledge, learnt to do something, applying that knowledge (i. e. performance appraisals) Learning takes place over period of time and unfolds over three stages: declarative knowledge. All resources channeled into one direction, hard to multitask: knowledge compilation. Performance: fragmented and piecemeal: procedural knowledge.
