Document Summary

The molecular mechanisms of membrane transport and the. Consider the characters of a compartment: composition of enclosing membrane: molecular markers displayed on cytosolic surface of membrane serve as guidance cues. Transport vesicles bud off as coated vesicles, which have distinctive cage of proteins covering cytosolic surface. Before fusing with target membrane, discard coat needed for two cytosolic membrane surfaces to interact. Coat performs two main functions: inner coat layer concentrates specific membrane proteins in a specialized patch. Gives rise to vesicle membrane: outer coat layer assembles into a curved lattice that deforms the membrane patch and shapes the vesicle. The assembly of a clathrin coat drives vesicle formation. Clathrin-coated vesicles transport material from plasma membrane and between endosomal and golgi compartments. Major protein component is clathrin which forms outer layer of coat. Each subunit consists of 3 large and 3 small polypeptide chains.
