Document Summary

Individual chromosomes become visible as chromatin condenses th , 2016. Bio130 lecture 23 the cell cycle. Not all cells in a culture divide at the same times. Very few cells divide at a given time. Chromosomes pair up as they align on the metaphase plate. Nuclear division: the nucleus and cytoplasm divide, mitosis, cytokinesis, m phase is not just mitosis (m name is confusing for some, the period between cell divisions. Some cells only divide when given an appropriate stimulus. Some cells normally divide on an ongoing basis. Special proteins called kinetochore surround the centromere. Doesn"t mean the cell is dying: e. g. hematopoietc and epithelial stem cells to divide to replace the lost tissue, they are simply performing their duties without undergoing mitosis. Cells that do not divide are in g0. Cell grows and carries out normal metabolism, organelles. In some cases, you can enter g0 and then return to the cell cycle.
