Document Summary

Something that varies must at least have 2 levels (values) Example: neatly 60% of teens text while driving . Levels: whether a person does text while driving or doesn"t text while driving. Constant: something that could potentially vary but has only one level in the study in question. Variables can have more than 2 levels. Researches in any study either measure or manipulate each variable. Measured variable: a variable whose levels are simply observed and recorded. Matter of recording an observation, a statement, or a value as it occurs naturally. Manipulated variable: variable that the researcher controls. Assign participants to the different levels of that variable. Example: some participants are given 10 mg of a medication, others 20 mg, and still other. Some variables cannot be manipulated only can be measured. Some cannot be manipulated because it would unethical to do so. Can"t assign people to conditions that put their physical or emotional well-being at risk.
