This is because since we are dealing with mod 7, 6 in terms of mod 7 would be 1. Since 12 is a multiple of 6, it is also in terms of mod 1) x 6 = 1 mod 7; (x 6 ) 2 = 1 mod 7; x 12 = 1 mod 7 x 7.
