Document Summary

Initially these guys secreted c, n, and f which inhibited bmp signalling and that allowed ectoderm to become neural ectoderm. Saw that the notochord and the floor plate are both able to secrete some sort of signal, there is some sort of diffusible signal. So(cid:373)eho(cid:449) shh (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:272)e(cid:374)tratio(cid:374) is (cid:271)ei(cid:374)g read (cid:271)(cid:455) the (cid:374)a (cid:448)e tissue that"s (cid:271)ei(cid:374)g (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:448)erted to so(cid:373)e sort of transcriptional response, maybe there is a downstream transcription factor that is turned on by. Shh is the ventral marker: bmps are dorsal markers, the antagonism between the 2, affects cell fate. Just shows you where the transcription is happening: with immunohistochemistry, when you are looking at protein, that is where you might see a protein gradient here, difference between the 2, might show you gradient of secretion. Slide 25 shows this in a diagram the dorsal coordinate for the neural tube.
