When one raven there --> yells a lot. Territorial mating pairs --> two silent ravens may be the pair. If not a pair, you"re just wandering lonely. If small number and not the pair --> yell a lot. Otherwise the territorial pair will be really guardy. If yell a lot --> attract other ravens --> overwhelm the pair and get food. Parent shows up --> start to beg and chirp. When parent not there --> begging is not optimal. May be dependent on where the nest is. High frequency sound does not travel as much. Lots of dead ends (going down a branch and going back) High frequency sounds do not travel as much as low frequency.
