Document Summary

Exam: know lecture material for class and general information of articles. Scientific papers - know their content and how they relate to class material. It is harder for species to go extinct then population extinction and it is harder for population extinction than population decline (population decline -> population extinction -> species extinction: logically the requirements of what extinction means. The ultimate goal of conservation biology is the preservation of the earth"s biodiversity. To do so, we sustain environments that are important for our survival and make sure that resources stay sustained. This means that we need to manage human interactions to maximize the benefits they provide today and maintain their potential to meet future generation"s needs and aspirations. The world can be divided in 8 biogeographical areas and 867 ecoregions, all with their differences and similarities, divided by geological barriers and each having different biological turnovers.
