The ribosome reads 3 letters at a time to determine the codon. Certain amino acids are associated with more than one codon the differences lies in the 3 rd nucleotide. Domains can canrry out differen abilities (ligand binding, transmembrane region, caralytic domain) Transfer rna (trna) trnas carry the amino acids at their 3" end, and recognize the mrna sequence (codon) in their anticodon region (for each amino acid) The anti-codon will need to be lined up properly in the ribosome as its being read. Thanks to the wobble effect (oscillation) we only need 32 trnas to accommodate the 61 codons.
