Document Summary

Aneuploid gametes are produced during meiosis and incompatible with life. Trisomies are most common - most will not survive past birth. Why are aneuploid gametes incompatible with life. Too much or not enough of something. Aneuploidies result in altered gene dosage in the cell. Not just a single gene on the extra or less chromosome. So were making extra copies or fewer copies of thousands of genes. Needs to be precisely the correct amount of transcription factors if not it leads to catastrophic consequences to the embryo. Problem during meiosis that causes one daughter cell to have 3 copies and another to only have 1. Nondisjunction of chromosomes - can occur in male or female (but majority in the oocyte) Eg. shows us 4 fertilized gametes that are produced. Based on the progeny - did nondisjunction occur in meiosis. Most common trisomy 21 - down sydrome. 13, 18 possilble - but survival very short.
