Domestic repercussions: the cold war at home. Stalin couldn(cid:495)t assert control in yugoslavia because there were too many. After the war tito formally broke with stalin in 1(cid:891)4(cid:890) over the (cid:498)greek crisis(cid:495)(cid:495) of 1(cid:891)44- communists there. Yugoslav communist gurellias gained widespread support due to their role in resisting the nazis. So the communist movt came to power independently in yugoslavia and was never under ussr control or a ussr creation. In late 1944 churchill flew to moscow and struck a deal with stalin. Stalin would recognize british supremacy in greece in return for british recognition of soviet supremacy in eastern europe, especially romania and bulgaria. However when britian tried to install a right-wing govt in greece in 1944, the greek communists rebelled. Stalin refused to assist the greek communists in this rebellion due to his deal with churchill. Stalin responds by denouncing tito as a renegade and imposing an economic blockade on them.
