This is a broad definition which covers the period between 1450 (medieval period) to the industrial revolution (1700) The renaissance brought about: centralisation of power. This is a fundamental condition for urbanisation: the discovery of the americas. This brought about increased wealth in europe: renaissance resulted in a new way of thinking. It resulted in the development of science, philosophy and rationality. The perception associated with the renaissance was general. The envision of the world at that time was that time went by without no changes occurring. However the renaissance is associated with progress, where things keep changing and improving. In this period, there was change for some people as the renaissance city was a different urban form. However the society remained the same in terms of living in the medieval area. The medieval city was: crowded, dense, unplanned, everything was within the walls. In the renaissance city: emergence of big avenues and straight roads.
