Calculability: emphasizes quantitative aspects for quality, numbers are used to express quality, the more people we put in prison, the more people we put into the system for a longer period of crime. Predictability: essentially, we know what to expect and we have expectations that will be met no matter which country, province, city, etc. you go into, mandatory minimum sentence. Everyone gets the same sentence regardless of circumstance. Control: the use of technology to improve efficiency to better control people, related to surveillance to people in the system, electronic monitoring (house arrest) and video monitoring in prisons. Consequences: have the opposite of what is expected, not fast long periods of time, more and more people going to prison for minor offences, overcrowded prisons and clogged court systems. Court-trials: number increased by over 500, wanted efficiency but ended up with inefficiency.
