SOC 1500 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Loan Shark, Victim Blaming, White-Collar Crime
Document Summary
Human ecology model: based on biological sciences, plants, animals, and their environment, how living matter is organized applied to humans. Change in a system=change in another part of the system. Competition for resources: looking at, over time, how the city became constructed. Zone 2: transitional zone: property owners expect buildings to be bought out (residencial). Generally cheap, poorly taken care of, inner city , poor, transient. Zone 3: working class residential zone: migrated out of zone 2, little italy, china town. Zone 4: middle class: single family dwellings, apartment, small business, professional offices, better lighting. Zone 5: commuter zone: bigger properties, bigger houses, suburbs, commuters go into the city from here. Most of the crime (legal conduct) happened in zone 2. Disorganization: there is this constant influx of people, immigrants, lack of connection between people. If you moved out of this zone, it was assumed that you would leave behind the tendencies.
