Survey or poll: a sample of people being asked to answer questions on the phone, in personal interviews, on a paper-and-pencil questionnaire, or over the internet. Open-ended questions: a question that allows respondents to answer in any way they see fit. Responses need to be coded and they can be time consuming and difficult. Forced-choice format: a question type in which respondents give their opinion by picking the best of two or more options. Likert scale: a scale containing multiple response options that are anchored by the terms strongly agree, agree, neither agree nor disagree, disagree, and strongly disagree. You have the option of having a neutral answer. Semantic differential format: a self-report response scale whose numbers are anchored with contrasting adjectives (easy and hard). There are several questions types, but the format of a question does not make or break it construct validity.
