All information processing memory models focus on 3 broad processing issues: Active process that includes: attention, repetition, forming new associations. Bringing the stored memory into current consciousness. Atkinson and shiffrin"s theory of memory suggests the mind has 3 basic memory systems: sensory memory. Lasts up to sec for visual; 2-4 sec for auditory. Information not transferred is lost: short-term memory. Maintenance rehearsal useful for short term, but not for studying: long-term memory. Prior experiences that affect our behaviour, but which we do not consciously remember: remember how to get somewhere without thinking. Personal experiences and events (e. g. high school graduation) Tend not be aware of these memories and can"t retrieve them. E. g. tie shoes, ride a bike, etc. Visualize each of the items you want to remember in a different spatial location. A new word is formed with the letters of words you need to recall.
