November 10th 2015** (important class, will be on test) Six points of social criicism on essenialism: essenialists ignore historical and cultural diferences surrounding gender and sexuality. If essenialism was true we would not see cross culture diferences on how construcion on femininity and masculinity. They can"t show us what gene produces what efect. Ex: they say that men has a gene that makes them more violent than men, but they cannot produce any evidence of this: essenialists tend to generalize from the average, while ignoring the variaion within the gender group. Only four theorists we will be examined on. Social straiicaion (social inequality) persist paterns of social inequality which results from the way power, wealth and presige are distributed among you and then passed from one generaion to the next. Social inequality exists in our society and it shows persistent paterns. It is passed on from one generaion to the next. (class condiions are enduring, it is the dominant patern)
