POSC 2200 Lecture 2: Wikipedia Essentials
Document Summary
Every article comes from a collection of sources. Finding good sources is the first thing you should do. Content on wikipedia must be verifiable: people reading and editing can check the information, must be able to see that its up to date and comes from a reliable source. Shouldn"t trust everything you read on the internet and wikipedia is no different. Source at the end of each wikipedia page helps to make its information easy to verify. Reliable sources include: textbooks, literature reviews, books or publications, written by experts in the field, published by reliable publishers. Do not use: blog posts, press material intended to show something in a certain light. Isn"t a catalog of everything that"s ever existed: some topics don"t have enough outside information yet, aka it isn"t notable yet. Must find a few reliable sources on your topic beforehand to ensure notability.
