Self-esteem is established through 7 building blocks, based on love: genuine encounter. Focused attention: adults should never hold back and avoid the opportunity for quality time. Be present (emotionally present); meaningful involvement that nourishes respect. The research shows that grandparents tend to do things with their grandchildren that they did not have time for with their own children. Adults do not have to feel guilty if they have something scheduled and they miss time with their child. Periodic time away is acceptable; if the adult is genuinely and whole-heartedly a majority of the time. The findings caution that children do need booster shots of encounter and adults must make sure to spend time with them to hear their children"s stories; meaningful communication and connection are encouraged. Mother and child or father and child days are important. Enjoy quality family time; researchers believe this is a fire prevention technique: safety of trust. Keeping promises, avoid surprises, support adventures, share relevant information.
