SOCPSY 1Z03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Cognitive Dissonance, Little Albert Experiment, Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
Related to schemes a feeling about the world/ideas/people/politics: how we react to things predictably. Predisposition to respond to some object in either positive or negative way. Can we change our attitudes to fall in line with our behaviours. Schema, have to have knowledge on topic to have an attitude: evaluative. Pos/neg direct experience shapes attitude: classical conditioning. Learning via linking 2 stimuli to gain a response. Little albert study: infant, unethical, child exposed to neural stimuli (white rat, rabbit, mask), and exposed to a stimulus with response (hammer smack noise). With repeated exposure, the child had a negative reaction to the white rat: us produces ur, conditioning, neutral thing associated with us = cs, post-conditioning, cs associated with us, makes cr. Children can learn to associated negative words with x and have negative feelings towards an object they(cid:495)ve never met. No direct experience but maybe on tv. Certain groups portrayed in a certain manner.
