Cell cycle has 2 irreversible points: entering into s phase (dna replication) you can"t kind of replicate dna, entering mitosis because to construct spindle and break nuclear envelope you need to be committed. Purpose of the cell cycle is to duplicate genomic material and make 2 daughter cells the same size. Can change cell cycle to do different things in different tissues. Spindle is build by motor proteins: kin 13 located at kinetochore + end and microtubule ends, microtubule sliding by kin 5 to create spindle and tension, anchored dynein to put spindle in place. Need to go from interphase microtubule network and build structure. M phase very visible under the microscope. Grey zone harder growth and dna replication, not obviously visible to the eye. Cell cycle phases (eukaryotes: m phase: mitosis and nuclear division and then cytokinesis (cytoplasmic division)
