BIOL 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Rho-Associated Protein Kinase, Cell Cortex, Lamellipodium
Document Summary
Recall how the on-rate of the capping protein is the parameter of how the system works. Pointed end = (-) end; barbed end = (+) end. Foot of cell is connected to the bundles of actin that"s able to contract. Contraction generates the force that pulls up the back foot. When it"s in open state, another actin monomer can come in. Then the dimer rocks, back and forth, as actin comes in and binds. The long skinny green extensions are fh1 domains. Fh2 is red, actin is purple, in the bottom schematic. Detachment/error probability is super low; this means the enzyme, formins, is highly processive. Could prevent actin polymerization; in processes where cells want to deliberately slow down actin polymerization, through modulation of deliberately slow down actin polymerization, through modulation of formins. The conformational change, triggered by atp hydrolysis, pulls on the filament and causes shift --> muscle contraction. They are propelled by myosin and atp hydrolysis, to go forward!
