Crim beh consequence of early seperation from caregivers 0. 5-3 years. Seperation prevents effective social dev from taking place. W/o effective social dev, they have long term problems in positive social relationships (lack of socialization / conscience) Bowlby (1944) studied 44 juvenile thieves and matched a control group of non-delinquent kids. 39% delinquint group had complete separation from mom for 6+ months in first 5 years of life vs 5% in non-delinquent group. Modern studeis find a much smaller relations, barely relavent. Proposed tentative causal formula for crime and delinquency.
