Infants & child prefer adult features, but adolescences & adults prefer baby-life features. All of these behaviours help to keep the mother near-by: attachment process: a strong emotional bond & behaviours that serve to keep mother & baby together. Environmental/learning approach caregiver-infant social behaviour results from interactions between the 2 individuals, with each in uencing the behaviour of the other: socialization: the process through which society moulds the child"s beliefs, expectations, & behaviours. Occurs through social learning & conditioning mechanisms (ex. positive/negative reinforcement/punishment: infants & caregivers produce behaviours to receive these negative/ positive reinforcements, resulting in a learned pattern of attachment. Cognitive-developmental approach social behaviours are in uenced by cognitive abilities: emotions: internal reactions or feelings that may be positive or negative. Affect: the outward expression of emotions through facial expressions, gestures, intonations, etc. infant"s ability to display different affective states is an important component of the mutual regulation between babies & their mothers.
