Motor development enhances the infant"s understanding of the world self-produced locomotion contributes to awareness of space, distance, heights, etc. Both biological & environmental factors are involved. Behaviour is a dynamic systems: dynamic: constantly changing & adding on to one another, systems: composed of many different parts & processes at different levels of organization. The patterns of behaviour we observe are due to relationships between these many different components. All parts of a system are activated & work together in a non-linear way in order to create a new action. Complex, universal behaviours come together from these individual, small components. The crucial element that unites the different parts of the system is the infant"s task or goal.
