English 315 learning how to look: seeing culture assignment. Building an insider view of the classroom community. Regarding the writing workshop characteristics i have observed at shepherd, there are multiple. For one, i have noticed my host teacher conducts minilessons which cover classroom procedures, the writer"s process, the qualities of good writing, and editing skills. One thing i have also noticed is that during this writing time, ms. dusenberry will move around the room, taking a couple of minutes at a time to check in with each student as they write. This provides the opportunity to differentiate instruction by working one-on-one with students, while also gathering informal assessments of writers" progress. In other words, the teacher can actually plan for what to teach in a future minilesson or if she needs to pull a small group together to address a common area of need.
