Document Summary

This writing conference took place in a fifth-grade classroom at shepherd elementary with a student named student a. The host teacher, ms. dusenberry, has instructed students to work on a memoir unit, which is a biography written from personal knowledge broken into short stories with an overall theme. One issue i am currently working on with student a is breaking her out getting side-tracked and confused when there is side chatter going on during writing time. We are also working on remembering that it is important to focus on the big picture of the piece when she becomes distracted by the finer details. Additionally, i would really like to focus on enhancing the speed that student a works at; she is very thorough but also holds herself back in terms of time because she is obsessively precise in her writing process. Finally, my focal student and i are now beginning to address grammar functions such as run-on sentences and periods.
