Document Summary

Social structures have powerful influences over individuals and social interaction. Social structures are an arrangement of institutions. They set limits on our choices and opportunities, motivate us to do some things and not others, and make some outcomes more likely than others. Example: a tall, old building has probably been renovated at some point. It has seen many people pass in and out of it. It still has the same overall structure that it had when it was built. People live and die and there are small changes but the overall structure remains the same. A child with rich parents is more likely to be rich as an adult because they have more opportunities to do things such as travel, go to a private school, or have access to tutors. A child with rich parents is also more likely to have personal connections to help them with various things like jobs.
