Sociology: the systematic study of social behaviour in human societies primary focus=group behaviour. Goals of sociology: describe the social world in terms of behaviour. Everyone sees the world though a different lens. In society we act differently based on what category we belong to i. e. child and parent, rich and poor. Auguste comte said sociology is a new way of looking at the world . Explain how and why the behaviour occurs. Critique existing social arrangements: understanding rapid social change looked at how religion was running society. Positivism - we need to look at what society is and not what it should be. Theory a statement of how and why certain facts are related. Theory acts a lens in which we see the world that can describe patterns.
