Document Summary

The cycle of events that takes place when a ell divides or duplicates into two genetically identical daughter cells. Involves a complex network of regulatory proteins known as the cell cycle control system : monitors orderly progression through the cell cycle, controls response to various signals inside and outside the cell, monitors conditions outside the cell. There are 2 major phases: m phase. Genetic material is divided to two daughter cells. Mitosis: nuclear division where genetic information is divided over 2 nuclei: s phase. The time that it takes for 2 steps is not the same, s phase is longer, it takes up half of the cell cycle. M phase is less than 1 hour in mammalian cells. These 2 phases are then separated into 4 phases in cell cycle, g1 and g2 to give a total of 4 phases. G1 precedes s phase, during this phase when the cell decides whether or not it will undergo dna replication.
