Background and context

Speciation is the process through which new and different species emerge from among the existing ones during the course of evolution. It is classified into two types: allopatric speciation and sympatric speciation. Allopatric speciation refers to the geographic isolation of populations from their parental species as well as their evolution. The creation of new species within the parent species in the same place is referred to as sympatric speciation.
