Background and context

The recycling of nutrients in freshwater occurs due to change in temperature and wind patterns. Spring and fall turnovers are seasonal events that occur each year so that the nutrients and oxygen at the bottom of the lake are recycled and they reach the top of the lake. The turnovers occur due to the formation of a thermocline.
