When you think about the influence of Western culture around the world, what comes to mind?  Perhaps you think about the English language spoken in many foreign countries, or the wearing of denim by teens around the world. You probably did not think about obesity when you thought about Western civilization, but many scientists and health experts claim that obesity is one unfortunate side effect of the spread of Western culture. Examine their efforts to protect a few specific ecoregions.  What if the government of one of these ecoregions determined it was necessary to develop parts of the region to free up land for agriculture and housing, as well as harvest valuable resources essential to the economic growth and prosperity of the country? Furthermore, this project would provide homes to the homeless and help alleviate poverty in the region.
