Science can be performed as Discovery (Observational) science or as Hypothesis driven science (see Chapter 1 lecture notes). We have employed Observational science in this lab. Imagine, instead that this lab had been done as a Hypothesis driven lab. Imagine that you and your lab partner have been wondering to yourselves, “I notice that our campus has a wetland area with a small pond. I wonder what types of living things are most numerous in our campus pond water?” One hypothesis could be, “I think that bacteria are the most numerous living thing in the pond water.” How could you set up an experiment to test this hypothesis? Describe the steps you would perform. How would you know if your hypothesis is correct or not?
