Pretend for this question that you are an alien and have never seen a rat, pigeon, frog, or fish before and that you have no idea what types of food each animal eats (or even whether they are omnivorous, herbivorous, or carnivorous).
If all you had were four carcasses and digestive tracts to examine (and no other tests available to you), how would you rank these animals from most to least carnivorous? What evidence could you gather to piece together a reasonable hypothesis of general eating habits for each animal?
