Under normal physiological conditions, the gene for repair of holes in the plasma membrane (gene rubber glue) is transcribed at very low levels. Upon riding over a bed of nails, the transcribed levels of rubber glue increased 10-fold for 24 hours and then returned back to normal levels. Using what you learned during lectures, class discussion, and readings propose a mechanism that might account for how the cell is regulating the levels of transcription for rubber glue.
