We engage in nonverbal behaviors all the time we are conscious. Nonverbal behaviors can be difficult to interpret because they are multi-channel. Nonverbal cues are important in conveying and interpreting verbal messages. Important to be able to read other people in everyday life. All behaviors, attributes and objects of humans--other than words--that communicate messages that have shared social meaning. Does not include sign language, written words or words transferred electronically. Differs from verbal language in multiple ways . All the messages that people transmit through means other than words. Face to face is where nonverbal is mainly present. Communication choices to do face to face versus other channels. It is regularly used within a group. Nv codes are distinct, organized means of expression. Consisting of symbols & rules for their use. Sounds we utter that don"t have the structure of language. Monochronic- expect everyone to live by that time & polychronic time-different notions of time.
