BIOL3190 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Cytosine, Hindiii, Reverse Transcriptase
Document Summary
Exposed to something and you have an epigenetic response passed off to offspring. If you are starved, your metabolic stuff is reset to maximize caloric intake and minimize energy. You can be affected by something nongenetic by a grandparent. Something epigenetic that has to pass through germ cells there"s all ki(cid:374)ds of stuff genome and a little bit of stuff. If you are subjected to starvatino, it leads to epigenetic changes that are translated to your progeny. Thrifty phenotype and potentially even a generation later expenditure which means for people who are not subject to those conditions, obesity, diabetes, sclerosis, etc is more likely. Egg cells are so big and have so much stuff such as maternal rnas. Phenotype of the offspring can often be impacted by what is going on with the mom but because it is maternal rna, is it necessarily related to genome. Answer is at lease non-coding rnas and cytosine methylation that are mediating these.
