Document Summary

Gregor mendel studied peas because : very few traits (observable, fast reproduction, able to control breeding. Law of segregation gametes get one allele of each gene. Offspring are heterozygous when parents are true breeders. Heterozygous one dominant allele and one recessive allele (dominant trait expressed) Homozygous both alleles are the same: homozygous recessive both recessive alleles so recessive trait will be shown, homozygous dominant both dominant alleles so dominant trait will be shown. Can solve for genotype of phenotype dominant by crossing with homozygous recessive. Dependent assortment alleles on the same chromosome aren"t independent. Independent assortment pairs of alleles sort out independent of other pairs. Independent assortment normally occurs because of crossing over and alleles are on different genes. If alleles are close together, separation is less likely to occur since crossing over will most likely bring both. True breeding both parents are homozygous.
