Lecture 9 outline: critical evaluation of operant conditioning models & methods. The conditioning models are able to successfully explain the acquisition and retention of behaviours, all behaviours normal and abnormal that can explain retention and acquisition using the same set of principles. They account for behaviour using the fewest inferences about the things that cannot be seen. Radical behaviourism post skinner refused to look at any mental processes. The concepts in learning theories are powerful tools for analyzing behaviour: social learning theory: a. bandura. * revision of reinforcement concept: self- reinforcement. Anthropocentric more human focused they asked the question, what variables mattered the most in human learning this question led to a different conceptualization of reinforcement. Most reinforcement after infancy, has very little to do with physiological need. Acceptance is a powerful motivator we get this from friends. Praise - children are motivated to please their parents just as psychotherapists and clients.
